Harvard Law School First Round of JD Acceptances and Several Tips from a Former Admissions Officer

Published January 2025

Harvard Law School released its first round of JD acceptances earlier this week for the class enrolling in Fall 2025! I am so happy for clients who started off 2025 with incredible news from HLS!

As a former admissions officer who previously reviewed files for the JD program at Harvard Law School, I have several tips for their process:

1) Harvard Law School’s JD program accepts either the LSAT or GRE for their standardized test score requirement. For the JD class that enrolled in Fall 2024, eight percent submitted the GRE. Their admissions website states they do not have a preference for either test. Although they do have a relatively high percentage of students who enroll that submitted the GRE for admissions compared to other T14 JD programs that accept the GRE, choose wisely as the vast majority of their class submitted the LSAT.

2) To hear good news from Harvard Law School in January, I recommend applying by the end of October.

3) Do not mention why Harvard Law School in your application essays. With the required statement of purpose and statement of perspective essays only being 1-2 pages each, the admissions committee would rather you focus on your own story for these documents.

4) Please do not bring up the movie “Legally Blonde” in your application or interview.

5) Interviews are required to be admitted to the JD program, but only those strongly being considered receive an invitation. If offered an interview with Harvard Law School, you should be prepared to answer why Harvard Law School during the interview without mentioning its prestige or ranking. Research their offerings and why they are compelling to you.
